The pellets are standaridized international biofuel biomass. They omply with small cylinders from the sawdust and shavings compaction and dry milled, from mills, other industries, or are produced from wood chips and other biomass from various sources, such as agropélets.
In the pelletizing process chemicals are not used, but simply pressure and steam, but you can also find a small percentage of organic additives.
It is advisable to require the supplier of pellets that explicitly indicates the origin and type of biomass that are made to avoid confusion with other types of pellets which are not suitable for biomass boilers. It also recommended the use of natural wood pellets, to be the most suitable for use in air conditioning of homes and large buildings.
Wood chips are small pieces ,around 5 and 100 mm in length, from logging, whose quality depends mainly on the raw material from which they came from.
An advantage is that, as a fuel that has a relatively simple pretreatment, has a lower cost than biomass produced industrially.
It can be produced locally and can be high-quality fuels for boilers of any size, but need more storage space than the pellets or olive pits.
Agroindustrial wastes
Agro-industrial waste comprises mainly the olive pits and almond shells.
In general, providers tend to reduce its humidity level by drying in order to increase its calorific value.
This is usually economic and quality fuel.
The wood comes from shredding trucks that will not be used for timber production, and can be produced locally by the users themselves.
As with the rest of the biomass, the energy produced by the boiler will depend on the type of wood and humidity level it contains.
The wood must be entered manually in the boiler, usually several times a day. Therefore, the wood heating systems tend to be semi-automatic, with the advantage that biomass is very economical.
The briquettes are densified biomass cylinders larger than the pellets, usually from sawmill sawdust and shavings.
These cylinders are normally replaced by wood boilers.
